iPhone Contacts App Crashing and All Contacts Missing - Fixed!

“After updating to iOS 13 I am experiencing the following issue with my contacts. I have all my contacts saved on iCloud and have several different contact groups that I select to send emails and filter my contacts. But When I selected one of the groups to send emails today, the contacts app crashed, and I couldn’t access my contacts on my iPhone anymore. However, there are some quick and easy methods to recover your contacts app and your disappeared iPhone Contacts. Here we will show how to get it done.

Preparation: Restore the Contacts App.

Option 1. Recover missing iPhone contacts with iCloud.

Option 2. Restore your iPhone using iTunes backup.

Option 3. Recover all contacts with SD iPhone Data Recovery.

  • If you have synced your contacts to iCloud, head to Option 1.
  • If you haven’t synced your contacts to iCloud before and backup via iTunes on the computer, head to Option 2 directly.
  • If you don't have any backups anywhere, head to Option 3.

Preparation: Restore the Contacts App. Check if they will reappear by reinstalling the App. 

If your iPhone Contacts app keeps crashing, you'd better delete it and reinstall it from the App Store.

Tap App Store, search Contacts from the search bar, download it, and reinstall it after you delete the previous version of the Contacts App.

Note that removing the Contacts App won't delete your contacts. Firstly. Review steps to Sync iPhone contacts to iCloud.

Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud, then scroll to contacts, and turn on the toggle switch to green.

Secondly. Go to iCloud.com to Make sure Contacts are there and Export all to make a Copy.

Option 1. Recover missing iPhone contacts with iCloud

Step 1: Turn off iCloud Contacts sync.

Head into Settings >Apple ID [your name] > iCloud

Toggle the Contacts switch from on to off. Tap "Keep on My iPhone" when prompted.

For iPhone X or 11/12/13

Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power off slider appears, wait and press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.

For iPhone 8/7/6

Hold on the side button and drag to power off your iPhone. After a while hit the side button until you see the Apple logo.

Step 3: Turn on iCloud Sync.

Head into Settings >Apple ID [your name] > iCloud

Toggle the Contacts switch from off to on/green.

Step 4: Reopen the Contacts app to check all contacts.

Check if the contacts app still keeps crashing. And tap Contacts, the disappearing contacts should be there. if they recover as normal, congratulations. If the contacts app still crashes and quits, and you couldn’t access your contacts on your iPhone, Try one more step.

Step 5 Delete Group from iCloud and Repeat steps 1 to 4.

Export and back up iCloud contacts by exporting vCard to your computer for a backup. Delete the contact group from iCloud.com via the setting menu on your computer.

As the crash is caused by the iCloud group, you can delete and rebuild your contacts group later or restore them with the exporting one. This action would not delete your contacts, just delete your groups.

Afterward, perform steps 1 to 4 again.

In that case, your iPhone comes with all of your existing contacts without contact groups. You can either restore your groups,or manually rebuild them by going to iCloud.com.

Tips: Show all contacts via the group settings.

After you get all your contacts back, make sure to check the group settings to show all contacts.

    1. Open the Contacts app, and tap Contacts.
    2. Tap Groups on the upper-left corner of the screen.
    3. Deselect the All iCloud
    4. Tap Show all contacts. Tap Done.

Option 2. Restore your iPhone using iTunes backup.

If you have backed up your iPhone recently in iTunes, there is no need to worry about how to get these contacts back. Just restore from the previous iTunes backup, and you will find your missing contacts in a moment.

Step 1: Open iTunes on your PC or Mac. Connect your iPhone to your computer.

Step 2: Click on the upper left mobile phone-like icon to head to the summary page.4
