- Press quickly and release the Volume Up button, then press quickly and release the Volume Down button.
- Then press and hold the Side button for 10 seconds until the screen goes black.
- Keep holding the Side button and now press the Volume Down button. After about 5 seconds, release the Side button.
- Continue to hold the Volume down button for about 10 seconds. The screen should be black.
- As soon as a popup window appears in iTunes that says “iTunes has detected an iPhone in Recovery Mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes” or Finder that says “Your Mac has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used”, release the Volume Down button. It means you’ve entered the DFU mode successfully.
- Click OK in the prompted window and Click Restore.
Note: The DFU mode screen should be a totally black screen. If your iPhone 13, 13 Pro, or Max restarts, or it shows the Apple logo on the screen, it means you failed to put it in DFU mode. Start the process over from the beginning carefully and try again. Sometimes, you also need to press hard.
How to exit DFU mode on iPhone 13.
1. Press quickly and release the Volume Up button.
2. Press quickly and release the Volume Down button.
3. Press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo appear.
Your iPhone 13 will boot back eventually.
